Singapore opens humanoid robotics centre for police, prison and civil defence work

The Home Team Science and Technology Agency aims to have a first humanoid working alongside officers in a real operational setting by 2028.

Singapore's Home Team Science and Technology Agency (HTX) opened the Home Team Humanoid Robotics Centre on 30 September. The agency says the 29,000 sq ft site has motion-capture, teleoperation and simulation systems, plus mock-ups of public-safety scenes for training and testing robots.

HTX lists the tasks it wants humanoids to learn: handling hazardous materials, examining scenes after explosions, searching prison cells for contraband and restocking ambulance medical supplies. Its target is a first humanoid working with Home Team officers in a real operational setting by 2028.

The agency signed a memorandum of understanding with ST Engineering covering research, system integration and cybersecurity, and says its national computing infrastructure has been upgraded for training robot models. The release does not name which humanoid robots the centre will use.
