RoboParty shows RP1 open-source humanoid at IROS, plans releases in Q4

The Pittsburgh start-up says the full-size biped has joints with up to 160 N·m of peak torque; price, height and weight have not been disclosed.

RoboParty, a Pittsburgh-based start-up, showed its RP1 humanoid at the IROS conference on 28 September and described it in a press release on 3 October. The company says the robot uses actuator modules it designs itself, called Romomo, and reaches up to 160 N·m of peak joint torque.

At the show, visitors could push the robot to test its balance recovery. The company says RP1 learns motor skills with its own reinforcement-learning training system.

RoboParty says it will publish mechanical files, motion-control software, simulation environments, SDKs and training tools, with hardware and software releases and a mass-production programme planned for the fourth quarter of 2026. It has not given a price, height, weight or degree-of-freedom count. Founder Yi Huang said humanoids "should not be closed systems".
