Boston Dynamics has appointed Rohit Prasad as chief executive, effective 7 October, the company announced on 6 October. It says he is also expected to join its board, subject to approval.

According to the release, Prasad spent 12 years at Amazon, where he was senior vice-president and head scientist for Alexa and artificial general intelligence and led development of the Nova foundation models. Before that he spent nearly 14 years leading machine-learning research at Raytheon BBN Technologies.

The appointment follows the company's September announcement, with owner Hyundai Motor Group, of a training centre for Atlas humanoids at Hyundai's Georgia plant. Boston Dynamics said then that 25,000 Atlas units are planned across Hyundai and Kia plants. The new release does not name Prasad's predecessor.
