Aether AI introduces CRIS-0, a robot system that checks each step of a task
The start-up says its causality-driven agent and world model let robots spot disturbances and return to the stage that went wrong.
Aether AI, a start-up founded by University of California San Diego assistant professor Biwei Huang, introduced CRIS-0 on 8 October. The company calls it a causality-driven intelligence system for real-world robot tasks.
The company says CRIS-0 pairs a causality-guided agent with a causal world model. From a few demonstrations, the agent picks out the variables that matter, splits a task into stages, sets a check for each stage and assembles tools such as learned policies, navigation and rule-based functions. When a check fails or a disturbance affects the task, it goes back to that stage.
Demonstrations include clearing a tablecloth into a basket, grasping a pot handle and choosing a drink to suit a user's fitness goals. Results appear only as videos: the post gives no success rates or trial counts and names no robot hardware.
Aether says it raised a $20 million seed round in June.
